The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has called for the revival of the Opposition INDIA bloc following recent Assembly election results. The party criticized the Congress, the largest alliance member, for hindering unity-building efforts. The CPI(M) dismissed allegations of a BJP deal in the Kerala polls as baseless and malicious.
The Left Democratic Front (LDF) alliance, led by CPI(M), lost its stronghold in Kerala to the United Democratic Front (UDF) where the Congress plays a major role. The party in Kerala is seeking feedback at various levels to address the setback. Corrective actions based on these discussions will be implemented to rectify identified weaknesses.
In West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Assam, similar assessments will be conducted as part of the party’s strategy. The CPI(M) re-entering the West Bengal Assembly was seen as a positive development by the party’s highest decision-making body. The party also noted victories in Mahe, Puducherry, and acknowledged the BJP’s growing presence in the South.
