In a recent operation, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and Chandigarh Police collaborated to dismantle a drug trafficking network in the Tricity area. The joint effort resulted in the arrest of two individuals, including a woman, in Kharar, Punjab. The operation, which began on June 12, led to the seizure of 793 grams of Methamphetamine, 10 grams of Heroin, and 250 grams of Poppy Straw.
Further searches at a flat in Kharar uncovered additional quantities of drugs, indicating the presence of a well-organized drug trafficking network. The seized Methamphetamine alone was approximately sixteen times the commercial quantity specified under the NDPS Act. Investigations revealed connections to a drug syndicate based in Pakistan. The arrested individuals were found to have links to a previous drug-related case registered in Chandigarh.
The NCB emphasized the importance of public support in combating drug trafficking and encouraged citizens to report any related information through the MANAS-National Narcotics Helpline. Informers’ identities are kept confidential to ensure their safety. Additionally, the NCB recently destroyed narcotic drugs worth Rs 236 crore in Dehradun, demonstrating its commitment to a drug-free India by disposing of 303 kg of seized drugs linked to various cases.
