The Congress-led government in Karnataka and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are in a dispute over halting the Bengaluru Metro fare hike. The BJP credits Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar for the halt, while the Karnataka government asserts that the decision was made locally.

Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar clarified the situation, stating that the Karnataka government took the initiative to stop the Metro fare increase. He emphasized that the Central government lacks the authority to intervene in this matter and instructed officials to reevaluate fares based on the Delhi Metro’s formula.

Shivakumar further explained that a new fare fixation committee must be established for any fresh decisions regarding fare adjustments. He dismissed claims of seeking a fare hike, highlighting the need for a committee’s involvement in issuing directives.

Responding to allegations of individuals taking credit for the fare hike suspension, Shivakumar emphasized that the primary concern should be the public’s benefit and sustainability of both commuters and the Metro organization. He emphasized the state government’s decision to halt the fare hike and the need for recalculating fares based on specific criteria.
