Cricket West Indies has included 19-year-old wrist spinner Vitel Lawes in the squad for the first three ODIs against New Zealand. Lawes, who impressed at the ICC Under-19 World Cup, has earned his maiden senior international call-up after training with the senior squad. Former West Indies spinner Nikita Miller will provide coaching support during the series in Guyana.
Head coach Daren Sammy stated that Lawes’ selection is part of the team’s preparation for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in 2027. The squad, similar to the one that played against Sri Lanka, will be led by captain Shai Hope. Keemo Paul replaces Shamar Springer, who is unavailable due to a family tragedy.
The West Indies squad, including Lawes, will gather in Guyana after the Test series against Sri Lanka. The first three ODIs will be held in Providence, Guyana, before moving to Barbados for the remaining matches. Shimron Hetmyer will miss the Guyana leg due to commitments in Major League Cricket.
