Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced plans to recognize veteran fast bowler Kemar Roach for achieving 300 Test wickets during the fifth ODI against New Zealand at Kensington Oval. The special on-field ceremony will occur during the innings break, with CWI, the Government of Barbados, and the Barbados Cricket Association participating to celebrate Roach’s milestone. Roach, the fifth West Indian and second Barbadian to reach this milestone, accomplished the feat in a recent match against Sri Lanka in Antigua, joining a select group of Caribbean bowling legends.
Roach has been a stalwart for the West Indies for nearly two decades, showcasing exceptional skill, determination, and commitment. His remarkable achievement has earned him praise as an outstanding ambassador for Caribbean cricket and an inspiration to aspiring fast bowlers. CWI President Dr. Kishore Shallow lauded Roach’s contributions, highlighting his significant impact on West Indies cricket and his rightful place among the sport’s legends.
Making his Test debut in 2009 against Bangladesh, Roach has emerged as a key figure in the bowling lineup, known for his control, late movement, and accuracy. His 300 Test wickets, obtained at an average of 28.83, include 12 five-wicket hauls and one ten-wicket match haul. CWI has encouraged fans to attend the match at Kensington Oval, where admission is free in honor of the late Sir Garfield Sobers, to pay tribute to Roach during the innings break.
