The Vice-Chancellor of CT University in Punjab’s Jagraon faced termination following accusations of misbehavior and threats towards Kashmiri Muslim students requesting special meal arrangements during Ramzan. The district administration, along with the police and community leaders, intervened to resolve the situation, leading to the removal of Vice-Chancellor Nitin Tandon. Kashmiri students claimed they were denied proper meal arrangements for ‘Sehri’ and ‘Iftar’ in the university mess, resulting in verbal abuse and threats of eviction and admission cancellation when they raised concerns.

The incident sparked worries among families and the community, prompting demands for clarification from the university administration. Iltija Mufti, daughter of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, highlighted the issue to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann through social media. The local administration, in collaboration with Shahi Imam Maulana Mohammad Usman Rahmani Ludhianvi, successfully resolved the matter, appreciating the university management for peaceful dialogue.

CT University Chancellor Charanjit Singh Channi confirmed an internal investigation into the incident, with ongoing monitoring by local authorities. The Chancellor stated that the VC resigned following a heated argument with students regarding food, leading to a protest that ended upon his resignation.
