Cuba criticized the United States for imposing new sanctions on five Cuban state-owned entities and a relative of former President Raul Castro, alleging that the measures are intended to further damage the economy. Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez denounced the sanctions, accusing the US government, led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, of intensifying economic pressure on Cuba.
Rodriguez emphasized that despite the aggressive actions and hardships faced by the Cuban people, the country has demonstrated resilience and strength. The sanctions specifically target five state-owned entities, with three connected to Grupo de Administracion Empresarial S.A. and two linked to the mining and metallurgical sectors, as per a US Department of State fact sheet.
The Trump administration’s expanded sanctions aim to impact key sectors of Cuba’s economy and individuals associated with the Castro family. Secretary of State Marco Rubio justified the sanctions, stating they are directed at entities and persons supporting the Cuban government’s activities. Notably, the measures focus on entities facilitating financial transactions for the regime, including those within Grupo de Administracion Empresarial S.A.
