Cyberabad Police have filed cases against social media accounts that shared photos and videos related to the POCSO case involving Bandi Bhageerath, the son of Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar. The cases were registered at Pet Basheerabad Police Station where the initial POCSO case against Bhageerath was lodged on May 8.
A complaint by the Child Welfare Committee Chairperson led to the registration of cases under various sections including the Juvenile Justice Act, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the POCSO Act. The police identified Instagram and Facebook accounts responsible for circulating the content and have forwarded the details to authorities for further action.
The police have also booked cases against those who shared information about the victim and her parents on social media platforms. Revealing the identity of victims in POCSO cases is a serious offense, causing emotional distress, and strict legal action will be taken against the offenders, emphasized the Pet Basheerabad Police Station House Officer.
A case was filed against Bhageerath under the POCSO Act for allegedly sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl. Following a complaint by the victim, the police invoked harsher provisions of the POCSO Act, including sections related to aggravated penetrative sexual assault. Bhageerath was summoned by the police but sought time to appear, and he has approached the Telangana High Court seeking to quash the case and anticipatory bail.
