Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, set to become Chief Minister, is a key political figure in the state. With over four decades in politics, he is known for his organizational skills, electoral victories, and governance initiatives.
Shivakumar, a prominent Congress leader, rose from grassroots activism to leadership positions. Despite facing challenges, including a stint in jail on money laundering charges, he emerged stronger politically. His dedication to the party was evident when he chose jail over switching allegiances.
Having held various ministerial roles, Shivakumar’s tenure as Energy Minister saw Karnataka’s significant growth in solar power generation. His initiatives, like the Pavagada Solar Park and “Surya Raitha,” aimed at farmer-centric renewable energy, garnered attention.
As Deputy Chief Minister, Shivakumar spearheaded key projects benefiting Karnataka, including the “Five Guarantee” schemes and infrastructure developments worth Rs 1.5 lakh crore. His focus on water resources led to the completion of projects like Cauvery Phase V, ensuring long-term water security for the state.
