The Dalai Lama, the Tibetan spiritual leader, has been discharged from a hospital in New Delhi after undergoing successful left knee replacement surgery. This surgery follows a previous right knee replacement procedure he had in New York City earlier in June 2024, where he had a remarkable recovery. His medical team and the office of the Dalai Lama coordinated closely with Apollo Hospitals throughout his treatment.
A Senior Consultant at the hospital stated that the Dalai Lama’s surgery on June 8 went well, and he is expected to fully recover. The hospital expressed great honor in serving the spiritual leader, who is now in a stable condition. He is set to visit Ladakh later in June for an extended stay, as announced by his office.
Known as a symbol of Buddhism, the Dalai Lama is admired for his travels to Ladakh, where he meets people of all faiths, despite facing criticism from China. He is also planning to attend a public event in Leh to celebrate his 91st birthday on July 6. The Dalai Lama has a significant history, having fled to India in 1959 after the Chinese suppression of the Tibetan national uprising in Lhasa.
The Tibetan government-in-exile is currently located in Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh, where the Dalai Lama resides with a Tibetan community striving for autonomy in Tibet.
