The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and the National School of Drama (NSD) have launched ‘RangBaag’ at the Maya Art Gallery in Indraprastha Park, targeting structured theatre education for 21 children aged 12-16 years. This initiative aligns with the vision of Delhi Lieutenant Governor and DDA Chairman Taranjit Singh Sandhu to revitalize public green spaces as hubs for community learning and cultural engagement. The program, under NSD’s guidance, offers a six-week production-oriented workshop focusing on various theatre aspects like communication, movement, storytelling, improvisation, and performance techniques in a collaborative and playful setting.
The workshop’s objective is to foster self-expression, confidence, empathy, teamwork, and a heightened awareness of one’s environment through the transformative power of theatre. Scheduled to conclude on June 14, the participants will present their creative journey and newfound skills in a final performance for their families and mentors. ‘RangBaag’ signifies the commencement of a scalable model envisioned by DDA and NSD to integrate arts, education, and community involvement into Delhi’s public spaces, emphasizing the shift from parks being mere recreational areas to becoming platforms for learning, creativity, and inclusivity.
This initiative follows DDA’s previous project at the Mehrauli Archaeological Park, which featured heritage walks and cultural performances, drawing significant participation from Delhi residents, including the Lieutenant Governor. As a key custodian of urban ecological infrastructure in India, DDA manages extensive parks, biodiversity zones, and city forests in the national capital. ‘RangBaag’ represents a pioneering collaboration between DDA and NSD to transform public parks into hubs of creativity, expression, and community engagement through structured theatre education, aiming to enrich the cultural landscape of Delhi.
