The deadline for submitting documents to the Election Commission of India regarding the Trinamool Congress name and symbol ownership by rival factions, one led by Mamata Banerjee and the other by Ritabrata Banerjee, is 5.30 p.m. on Monday. The ECI will decide the rightful holder of the party name, symbol, and funds after both factions present their arguments. The factions have put forth their cases before the ECI.
The rebel faction, claiming majority support, has replaced Mamata Banerjee with Arup Roy as the national chairperson. The minority faction led by Mamata Banerjee argues that the rebels cannot claim the party’s name and symbol as they were nominated by her for elections. They also contest the validity of the new National Working Committee formed by the rebel faction.
Mamata Banerjee has expressed concerns about losing control over the party name and symbol. In a social media message, she accused the rebel camp of attempting to seize the party’s assets. She affirmed her determination to continue her political journey regardless of the outcome of the ECI decision.
