The death toll from an explosion at an alleged illegal firecracker manufacturing unit in Ahmedabad’s Ramol area has climbed to 10. One critically injured victim, Govind Damor, succumbed to extensive burn injuries at the Civil Hospital early Monday. Among the admitted patients, one woman and four men were severely injured, with burns covering over 95% of their bodies.
Dr. Rakesh Joshi, the Medical Superintendent at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, reported that the victims were receiving specialized treatment. Three patients with burn injuries are in the Burns Ward, with skin grafts from the hospital’s Skin Bank aiding in their recovery. The blast, which occurred at the ‘New Gujarat Fire Works’ unit, led to a major fire that engulfed the premises and trapped workers inside.
Authorities have arrested the factory operator, Ramila Dodia, her son Mehul Dodia, and their alleged partner Sadiq Saiyed. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to probe the incident, while safety violations and illegal firecracker manufacturing units in the region are under scrutiny for potential crackdown.
