The death toll in the tragic collapse of an under-construction warehouse roof in Taratala, Kolkata, has reached 15 as confirmed by West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. The construction company, Ayan Traders, and the architect responsible for the structure have been blacklisted, preventing them from taking on any future projects in the state.
Chief Minister Adhikari emphasized the lack of monitoring by Ayan Traders and the architect in ensuring safety standards during construction. The tragedy was attributed to the use of poor-quality construction materials and a flawed casting pattern, according to a preliminary investigation by the Kolkata Police’s Special Investigation Team.
The absence of an attendance record at the warehouse site has made it difficult to determine the exact number of workers present during the collapse. With no workers’ register available, the authorities are unable to ascertain how many individuals might still be trapped beneath the debris.
Adhikari stressed the importance of monitoring and adherence to safety protocols during construction activities. He assured that those accountable for the incident would face consequences and urged victims of building plan forgery to report such cases to the local police for necessary action.
