The death toll from the Moshi garbage dump collapse in Pune’s Pimpri-Chinchwad has reached eight as rescue teams recovered seven more bodies from the damaged administrative building of the Waste-to-Energy project. One person is still missing, prompting ongoing search efforts. The incident occurred when a large heap of garbage collapsed onto the administrative building, trapping a total of 23 individuals.
Authorities launched a comprehensive rescue operation involving various teams, including the Indian Army and the National Disaster Response Force. Despite initial success in rescuing nine people alive, challenges arose due to the unstable condition of the building. Heavy machinery was deployed to clear debris and create safer access for rescue teams. Advanced demolition equipment was later used to carefully dismantle hazardous sections of the structure.
During the rescue operation, seven more individuals were found trapped inside the building and declared dead upon examination at a local hospital. With these additional casualties, the total death toll now stands at eight. Efforts are ongoing to locate the missing person believed to be buried beneath the collapsed building. Specialized search equipment, including NDRF dog squads, is being utilized in the search operation.
