The death toll from a suicide bombing at a wedding in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reached seven, with seven others injured. The blast targeted the residence of Noor Alam Mehsud, head of the Peace Committee in Dera Ismail Khan district. The explosion occurred while guests were engaged in traditional drum dancing, leading to a part of the building collapsing.
Rescue 1122 officials dispatched ambulances and response vehicles to the site following the blast. The bodies of the deceased and injured individuals were transported to hospitals, and rescue teams initiated debris-clearing operations. The head of the suicide attacker was found at the scene, prompting a security cordon and investigation.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi condemned the attack, demanding a prompt report from the provincial police chief. He emphasized the importance of providing the injured with top-notch medical care and vowed to bring those responsible for the blast to justice. The incident, described as “unfortunate,” underscores the ongoing security challenges faced by the region.
The provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, bordering Afghanistan, have witnessed a surge in such attacks. Notably, Noor Alam Mehsud has previously been targeted in a similar attack in 2022. The region has experienced a rise in violence, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa being significantly impacted by the escalating security situation.
