Indirect talks between the United States and Iran are ongoing in Doha with the mediation of Qatar and Pakistan. The discussions, which are currently indirect with no face-to-face meetings, are focused on implementing the Memorandum of Understanding agreed upon in Islamabad on June 17. Issues being addressed include frozen Iranian assets and maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz.
Qatar confirmed that US President Donald Trump’s envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, are in Doha but will not directly engage with Iranian officials. Instead, the US delegation will meet with mediators to discuss progress in implementing the recent MoU between the two countries. Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson highlighted that the $6 billion in frozen Iranian assets has not yet been transferred to Tehran.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf stated that Iran will not engage in negotiations with the US for a final agreement until specific paragraphs of the MoU are implemented. Qalibaf emphasized that certain provisions, including ending the war on all fronts, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and releasing frozen assets, must be fulfilled before further implementation can proceed. Iran, the US, and Lebanon have agreed to establish a joint committee to enforce a ceasefire and ensure the end of the war in Lebanon.
