Mangaluru, Aug 11 (IANS) Karnataka Police have begun an investigation into the death of a 24-year-old man, the elder brother of a NEET aspirant who had died by suicide earlier, after he was found hanging in a hotel room near Mangaluru Airport, police said on Tuesday.

The deceased, identified as Arjun Mahesh, a native of Kasaragod, was found hanging inside a room at Sky Grand Empire Hotel in Maravoor, under the Kavoor police station limits on Monday. He was reportedly working as an automobile engineer in Dubai.

According to Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy, Arjun was the son of K. Radhika and Mahesh of Mukkood in Pallikkara. He had arrived in India but had not returned home, following which his relatives became concerned and began searching for him in Mangaluru.

The search led them to the hotel, where Arjun was found dead on Monday afternoon. Police recovered a brief note from the room, addressed to his mother and two of his friends. The note reportedly read, “Amma, I’m sorry, inform friends.”

Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death and are examining the circumstances that may have preceded the incident. Further details are awaited.

Arjun was the elder brother of Aija R. Mahesh, a 19-year-old National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) aspirant who died by suicide in Kerala on June 2. Aija was preparing for the NEET re-examination after the National Testing Agency (NTA) cancelled the earlier examination following allegations of a question paper leak.

Aija had been found hanging in a hostel in Pala. Her mother had earlier said that Aija was confident of securing good marks in the examination but was distressed after the cancellation of the test and announcement of a re-examination.

Police are continuing their probe to establish the exact circumstances leading to Arjun’s death. The police stated that they will record the statements of family members and friends today.
