Defence expert Retd Captain Anil Gaur has cautioned against politicising recent security incidents in Punjab. He highlighted that the violence and illegal activities in the state suggest the continued involvement of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) to destabilise the region and promote the Khalistani narrative. Gaur emphasized that blaming domestic political parties for such incidents is misguided, as external forces are believed to be orchestrating them.
Referring to the recent twin blasts in Punjab, Gaur warned against statements that play into the adversary’s agenda. He pointed out that Pakistan’s media amplifies internal political divisions in India to project instability, citing past remarks by Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Operation Sindoor. Gaur stressed the need for politicians to avoid such actions and focus on addressing the serious challenges faced by the country.
Gaur further highlighted that recent developments in Punjab, including blasts, firing incidents, and drone-based drug smuggling, indicate a coordinated effort by the ISI to disrupt peace in the state. He mentioned that large drug consignments sent through drones across the border aim to revive Khalistani elements and portray Punjab as a disturbed state.
According to Gaur, the broader objective is to internationalise the issue by projecting unrest in Punjab in countries like Canada and the United States, where pro-Khalistan sentiments are occasionally raised. He expressed confidence in the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to identify and apprehend those involved in such activities.
On the anniversary of Operation Sindoor, Gaur recalled the Pahalgam incident as “shocking,” alleging it was an ISI-backed conspiracy to incite communal violence in India. He commended the government’s response in maintaining restraint and sending a clear message through military actions. Gaur asserted that India’s firm retaliation to provocations signifies a strategic shift in the country’s posture.
