Defence Minister Rajnath Singh highlighted the government’s commitment to achieving self-reliance in ammunition manufacturing and transforming India into a global production hub. In Nagpur, he inaugurated the Medium Calibre Ammunition Manufacturing Facility at Solar Defence and Aerospace Limited, stressing the importance of self-sufficiency in defense.
The facility, a fully automated plant producing 30mm ammunition crucial for the Indian Army and Navy, was unveiled by Defence Minister Singh. He also visited the Pinaka Rocket manufacturing unit and dispatched the initial batch of Guided Pinaka rockets to Armenia. Singh praised the private sector’s role in bolstering India’s defense capabilities and advancing towards self-reliance in ammunition production.
Acknowledging the private sector’s contributions, Singh mentioned the indigenous multi-mode hand grenade supplied to the Indian Army in 2021. He also lauded the successful deployment of Nagastra drones during Operation Sindoor, underscoring their strategic effectiveness. The Defence Minister expressed confidence in the lethal potential of advanced Nagastra versions against adversaries if required in the future.
Singh highlighted the successful test launch of the ‘Bhargavastra’ Counter Drone System, a testament to the private sector’s technological prowess. He noted the initiation of Pinaka missile exports from the facility, showcasing India’s defense industry capabilities in boosting the country’s export potential. India’s transition from an importer to an exporter is progressing rapidly, according to Singh.
