Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met with Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Gen Phan Van Giang in New Delhi to enhance defence cooperation between the two nations. Singh expressed India’s commitment to deepening the strategic partnership with Vietnam. The meeting aimed to bolster the positive momentum in their engagement.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Vietnamese President To Lam discussed various areas of cooperation, including defence, security, trade, investment, science, technology, and cultural ties. The leaders agreed to elevate bilateral relations to an Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, setting a target to increase bilateral trade to USD 25 billion by 2030. Vietnam has also joined the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative.
PM Modi announced India’s support for establishing a Site Interpretation Centre at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of My Son Temple Complex in Vietnam. The leaders also agreed to grant market access for Indian grapes and Vietnamese Durians. The discussions highlighted the commitment of both sides to strengthen their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for regional peace and prosperity.
Vietnamese President To Lam’s visit to India, coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, signifies the deepening historical ties between the two countries. The engagement between leaders is expected to further enhance bilateral relations and create new avenues for cooperation between India and Vietnam.
