Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to travel to Germany from April 21-23 for an official visit aimed at enhancing the defence partnership between India and Germany. During the visit, Singh will engage in discussions with his German counterpart, Boris Pistorius, and other senior government officials to focus on boosting defence industrial collaboration and exploring opportunities in areas like cyber security, artificial intelligence, and drones. The Ministry of Defence has indicated that the visit will involve the signing of a Defence Industrial Cooperation Roadmap and Implementing Arrangement for Cooperation in UN Peacekeeping Operations Training.
The trip is significant as it marks the first visit by an Indian Defence Minister to Germany since 2019. Both countries share a robust strategic partnership based on democratic values and a commitment to a rule-based international order. The visit aims to deepen bilateral ties and contribute to regional and global peace, stability, and prosperity. The recent Foreign Office Consultations between India and Germany in Berlin emphasized the need to further enhance cooperation in various fields, including defence, technology, renewable energy, and development cooperation in third countries.
India and Germany are commemorating 75 years of diplomatic relations this year, following the celebration of 25 years of the Strategic Partnership in 2025. The visit underscores the shared objective of strengthening the India-Germany Strategic Partnership across trade, defence, technology, and innovation. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri’s meetings with German officials highlighted the mutual commitment to expanding cooperation and the significance of the bilateral relationship in key areas.
