Defence Minister Rajnath Singh advised citizens to refrain from panic-buying petrol, diesel, and LPG, emphasizing that the supply situation in the country is stable. The Government is ensuring the availability of essential items by taking necessary measures.
Following the 6th Informal Group of Ministers (IGoM) meeting, a review of essential commodities’ availability and the country’s supply chain resilience was conducted, considering the situation in West Asia. Singh praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership during these challenging times.
Additionally, the Government has introduced the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Regulation of Supply and Distribution) Amendment Order, 2026. This amendment aims to offer more flexibility to domestic LPG consumers shifting to piped natural gas (PNG) connections. Consumers with both LPG and PNG connections can now apply for termination of the LPG connection within 30 days of acquiring a PNG connection.
The recent amendment provides relief and flexibility for consumers planning to move to areas where PNG infrastructure is not available. Notably, over 7.99 lakh PNG connections have been established, with infrastructure set up for an additional 2.87 lakh connections since March this year.
The public sector oil companies have been actively delivering domestic LPG cylinders, with around 1.72 crore cylinders supplied against bookings of approximately 1.66 crore cylinders in the last four days. Moreover, to promote awareness, these companies have organized over 15,400 camps for small 5 Kg LPG cylinders, selling more than 2.45 lakh cylinders since April 3 this year.
Citizens are encouraged to utilize digital booking platforms for LPG and to avoid physical visits to distributors. The statement also advocates for the use of alternative fuels like PNG, electric, or induction cooktops. It emphasizes the importance of conserving energy in daily activities during the current situation.
