The Delhi Legislative Assembly and Speaker Vijender Gupta faced bomb threats through emails, leading to an urgent investigation by the Delhi Police. The threatening emails, received at 7:49 a.m. and 7:28 a.m., mentioned potential bombings at the Assembly and a nearby Delhi Metro station. Notable names like Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi were cited in the emails.
Police are actively investigating the origin of the threatening emails and evaluating the seriousness of the threat. Security measures have been heightened in and around the Assembly and nearby areas as a precautionary step. This incident follows a previous threat on February 23, where Speaker Vijender Gupta was warned of a bomb blast by alleged “Khalistan” supporters.
The earlier threat, attributed to the “Khalistan National Army,” coincided with the Speaker’s referral of a matter to the Committee of Privileges. The current threat comes on a significant day as the Delhi government prepares to present its Budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year in the Assembly. The Budget, estimated at around Rs 1.10 lakh crore, is anticipated to focus on various sectors such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure development.
