Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta stressed the importance of an informed society and legislators in tackling future obstacles and achieving the Viksit Bharat @2047 goal. Speaking at a Commonwealth parliamentary event in Haryana, Gupta highlighted the need for citizens to exercise democratic vigilance while legislators provide democratic guidance. He underscored the significance of converting societal aspirations into tangible outcomes through institutional support.
Gupta, addressing the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA)-India Region Zone-II Conference, discussed the theme “Role of Aware Society and Legislators in Realising Future Challenges and the Goal of Viksit Bharat 2047.” He emphasized the necessity of a collaborative effort where a vigilant society engages responsibly and legislative bodies respond with integrity, vision, and foresight.
Looking ahead, Gupta outlined key challenges for the next two decades, including the integration of artificial intelligence, addressing climate change impacts on agriculture and water resources, managing cybersecurity threats, and handling urbanization pressures. He highlighted the crucial role of an informed society in fostering democracy through active participation in combating misinformation and promoting social harmony.
Gupta also called for comprehensive institutional reforms within legislative bodies to effectively address future challenges. He discussed the importance of leveraging technological advancements like the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA) to create transparent and citizen-centric lawmaking processes. While advocating for the use of digital tools in governance, Gupta emphasized the irreplaceable value of human wisdom, accountability, and the core principles of parliamentary democracy.
