Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta expressed worry about the Punjab government’s actions regarding the honor of Sikh Gurus. He criticized the delay in sharing the FIR copy or forensic test report linked to a video of AAP leader Atishi’s controversial comments. Gupta highlighted that the alleged disrespectful remarks were made in the Delhi Assembly on January 6, but the complaint and FIR related to the video were filed in Punjab without the consent of Delhi’s legislature.
Gupta emphasized that despite reminders from the Delhi Assembly, the Punjab government’s continued withholding of the file raises serious questions. He mentioned the lack of transparency due to the non-disclosure of the FIR copy, complaint, and official investigation report. Gupta suggested that the delays and silence in the matter indicate an intentional effort to hide facts.
The Speaker pointed out a potential connection to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, intensifying the gravity of the issue. Gupta stressed the importance of accountability in a democracy, stating that no government should evade it. He assured that the Delhi Legislative Assembly would address the matter seriously and ensure justice.
Gupta condemned the spreading of false narratives and commotion by the ruling AAP party in Punjab following the insult to the Gurus. He emphasized the Assembly’s responsibility to reveal the truth and hold the guilty parties responsible. The Speaker criticized the Punjab government’s unauthorized use of Assembly footage for a forensic test, labeling it as illegal and a serious breach.
