Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta was threatened via email by alleged “Khalistan” supporters warning of a potential bomb blast targeting him and the Vidhan Sabha Secretariat. Upon receiving the threat, the Speaker’s Secretary, Vineet Kumar, promptly alerted the Delhi Police Commissioner. The threatening emails, supposedly from the “Khalistan National Army,” coincided with the Speaker’s involvement in a matter concerning video clips of the Leader of the Opposition Atishi’s remarks, which were perceived as disrespectful to Sikh Gurus.
The email, attributed to individuals from the “Khalistan National Army,” was sent to the Speaker’s personal email account and the office email of the Delhi Legislative Assembly. The messages contained explicit warnings of a bomb blast targeting the Vidhan Sabha Secretariat and the Speaker himself. These threatening emails were received within a short timeframe on Monday morning, prompting the Speaker to request immediate and thorough investigation to identify the source of the threats.
The Speaker’s office emphasized the urgency of the situation, urging swift and appropriate action to address the serious bomb blast threats directed at the Delhi Legislative Assembly Secretariat and the Speaker. The authorities were called upon to conduct a comprehensive investigation to uncover the origin of the threatening emails and ensure the safety of the Assembly and its members.
