Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva has expressed support for the Delhi government’s new draft Electric Vehicle (EV) policy, foreseeing a significant drop in vehicular pollution within three to seven years. The policy offers exemptions on registration fees and road tax for private two- and four-wheelers, aiming to encourage the adoption of EVs for personal use. Additionally, the policy promotes the shift of commercial vehicles from fossil fuels to electric mobility.

Sachdeva commended the government’s proposal to grant substantial exemptions in road tax and registration fees for electric goods carriers. By 2027, only e-autos will be registered in Delhi, enhancing the cleanliness of the public transport system. The transition to electric vehicles in commercial goods carriers will also contribute to reducing road pollution, according to Sachdeva.

A key highlight of the new EV policy is the government’s commitment to using electric vehicles exclusively for its operations. Furthermore, public transport buses and N1 category trucks will transition to full electric models, leading to a projected over 10% reduction in vehicular pollution within two years. The draft policy, released to the public for feedback, mandates the registration of only electric three-wheelers in Delhi from 2027 and two-wheelers from 2028, along with offering various financial incentives and infrastructure support to promote EVs.
