The Delhi Cabinet has given the green light to Research Fellowships in Archives and Archaeology to aid in the scientific exploration, documentation, and digitization of Delhi’s historical legacy, as announced by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. Nearly 27 fellows will be granted monthly stipends ranging from Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000 for a year under these programs. The initiative aims to offer a deeper insight into Delhi’s official history, preserved over centuries in archives, manuscripts, archaeological sites, and monuments.
The Chief Minister highlighted that these fellowships will present Delhi’s history in a research-based and authentic manner to future generations and global researchers. Emphasizing Delhi’s significance as not just the national capital but also a repository of millennia-old history, culture, and civilization, she stressed the importance of preserving and documenting this rich heritage for the benefit of future generations. The Research Fellowship in Archives is designed to promote top-notch archival research, enhance archival management, facilitate digitization of historical records, and enhance public access to historically significant documents.
Delhi’s historical sites and monuments will be the focus of the Research Fellowship in Archaeology, which seeks to promote the study, conservation, and enrichment of the city’s archaeological treasures. The scheme will support research on the lesser-known historical monuments of Delhi, revitalizing heritage conservation and tourism efforts. Chief Minister Gupta underlined that these fellowship programs will contribute to nurturing a skilled workforce in the fields of archives, archaeology, and heritage conservation.
