Delhi Capitals’ head coach, Hemang Badani, acknowledged that the team’s failure to capitalize on crucial moments led to their exclusion from the playoffs for the fifth consecutive year in the IPL 2026 season. Despite ending the season with a 40-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders, Badani highlighted instances where the team missed key opportunities in various matches.
Badani emphasized the significance of seizing pivotal moments in games, citing instances like losing by one run against Gujarat and failing to defend a score of 264 against Punjab Kings. He also noted the team’s struggle with dropping catches and losing wickets in clusters, contributing to their overall performance throughout the season.
Addressing the team’s bowling performance, Badani pointed out the lack of wickets taken by Delhi Capitals, ranking joint-lowest among all teams with 64 scalps in 14 matches. He stressed the importance of picking wickets consistently to maintain pressure on opponents and improve the team’s standings in the tournament.
Reflecting on Mitchell Starc’s absence in the initial games, Badani acknowledged the impact of the player’s limited availability on the team’s progress. Despite Starc’s absence, Badani believed that Delhi Capitals still had opportunities to qualify for the playoffs if they had capitalized on small margins and executed their game plan effectively.
Badani expressed disappointment over Delhi Capitals missing the playoffs for the second consecutive year under his leadership, attributing the team’s shortcomings to a lack of consistent performance throughout the entire duration of matches. He highlighted the narrow margins that separated them from qualification, emphasizing the need for alertness and full commitment in every game to succeed in the competitive tournament.
