Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has established a special cooling zone near the Jama Masjid Metro Station in Old Delhi to offer relief to the public during the rising temperatures and heatwave conditions. This initiative is part of the government’s efforts to provide direct relief to people in densely populated areas like Old Delhi, which are particularly vulnerable to extreme heat. The cooling zone, a permanent facility separate from mobile heat relief vehicles, can accommodate around 70 to 80 individuals at a time, providing respite to commuters, tourists, rickshaw pullers, laborers, senior citizens, and passersby affected by the scorching heat.
She emphasized the importance of ensuring comfort for everyone during the challenging summer period and instructed officials to identify other high-footfall areas in the capital where similar relief facilities can be set up. The government is implementing a comprehensive strategy to tackle the heatwave, including relief measures, improved access to drinking water, public awareness campaigns, and special arrangements in sensitive areas. With temperatures expected to increase further, all departments have been put on alert, and residents are urged to take precautions, stay hydrated, and utilize the government-provided relief facilities when needed.
