Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta criticized former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal after a video related to the controversial ‘Sheesh Mahal’ surfaced publicly. Gupta highlighted that the video exposed the truth that had been hidden for a long time. People had been eagerly awaiting clarity on the ‘Sheesh Mahal,’ and the video revealed what she called a significant contradiction.
Leaders who claimed to represent the ‘Aam Aadmi’ were accused of constructing a lavish palace using public funds. Gupta described it not just as a building but as evidence of corruption, arrogance, and a breach of public trust—a symbol of moral decay. She pointed out that the visuals in the video showcased alleged extravagance and abuse of power.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the public should witness how their elected representatives created a world of luxury at the taxpayers’ expense. She raised concerns about the project’s escalating cost, initially estimated at around Rs 8 crore but reportedly soaring to nearly Rs 62 crore, indicating serious financial irregularities.
Allegations were made that the residence was outfitted with numerous air conditioners, fans, expensive interiors, imported coffee machines, high-end appliances, and amenities worth lakhs. Gupta also mentioned the hiring of multiple private consultants for various tasks, further driving up the expenses.
Describing the situation as a ‘dark chapter’ in Delhi’s history, Chief Minister Gupta criticized the excessive spending, luxurious fittings, and the involvement of numerous consultants as signs of a complete disregard for regulations and ethical governance. She stressed that while citizens faced a pandemic and economic challenges, those in power were focused on constructing a palace with ‘world-class’ interiors for themselves, which she labeled as a breach of trust and financial misconduct.
Appealing to the citizens, the Chief Minister encouraged Delhiites to view the video and form their own opinions. She assured that her government would hold accountable anyone found guilty, with an ongoing investigation through the Public Accounts Committee to ensure transparency and accountability.
