Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta instructed DTC officials to set up “Jaldoots” at 23 major bus terminals to offer free drinking water to commuters and staff as part of the Heatwave Action Plan. Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh joined in directing the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) to take special measures ensuring passenger health and comfort during the heatwave. The DTC plans to distribute 200 ml packaged water glasses and pouches in 3,000 buses and install water dispensers at selected terminals for passenger and staff hydration.
The “Jaldoot” initiative by DTC aims to promptly assist the public, especially daily commuters who are most at risk during extreme heat. Launched last year under the Transport Minister’s guidance, the initiative received a highly positive response from the public. This year, the initiative has been enhanced to reach more people and have a greater impact. Additionally, free drinking water will be available on around 3,000 DTC buses across the city, expanding hydration access for passengers during their journeys.
The DTC’s commitment to public service and passenger well-being, particularly in adverse weather conditions, is evident through this initiative. The DTC urges all passengers to remain cautious, stay hydrated, and avoid excessive sun exposure during peak afternoon hours amidst the ongoing heatwave. Chief Minister Gupta also ensured that hospitals are prepared for heat-related cases, ambulances are equipped for emergencies, and a citywide awareness campaign is in place to educate residents on preventive measures.
