The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) conducted the first Stakeholder Consultation Workshop ahead of the Yamuna Dialogues to gather national and international experts for sharing restoration practices. This initiative, under Lieutenant Governor T.S. Sandhu’s guidance, aimed to shape a sustainable future for the Yamuna floodplains. The workshop convened various stakeholders, including government bodies, policymakers, experts, and institutions, to discuss strategies for the long-term restoration and management of the Yamuna river corridor.
The consultation workshop focused on two main themes: Floodplain-Responsive Planning and Ghat Development. Participants deliberated on creating infrastructure that aligns with the river’s natural flood patterns and explored ghat designs that integrate ecological, cultural, and recreational elements. Lieutenant Governor T.S. Sandhu stressed the importance of engaging Delhi residents, experts, and stakeholders in the river’s rejuvenation, emphasizing a collaborative effort for the Yamuna’s restoration.
The Yamuna Dialogues, initiated by the DDA, serve as a platform for discussing nature-based floodplain management solutions and exploring financing mechanisms for ecological infrastructure. The dialogues aim to align efforts with climate resilience and urban sustainability frameworks, fostering knowledge exchange and partnerships. Scheduled for September 2026 and January 2027, the dialogue sessions will focus on finalizing the Delhi Yamuna Compact, outlining restoration priorities and timelines for the Yamuna corridor.
