New Delhi, Aug 8 (IANS) A 70-year-old woman was killed after a speeding Mercedes was involved in a collision with another vehicle in Delhi’s Narela area on Saturday morning.

The incident occurred at around 8 a.m. in front of Himalaya Apartments in Mamurpur, Narela, creating panic among local residents. Police reached the spot soon after receiving information and launched an investigation into the matter.

According to preliminary enquiries, a Mercedes and a WagonR collided head-on. The impact of the crash was so severe that the WagonR was pushed backward and struck a three-wheeler loading van parked nearby.

During the collision, Urmila (70), wife of Satyanarayan and a resident of Mamurpur, Narela, became trapped between the vehicles. She sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot.

The driver of the WagonR suffered minor injuries and was provided medical assistance.

Police said a case of causing death by negligence and other relevant sections is being registered. The victim’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the accident.

Officials also stated that no gathering was reported at the scene following the incident.

The accident has once again drawn attention to the issue of reckless and high-speed driving in urban areas.

In a similar incident on November 30, 2025, one person was killed and two others were injured after a speeding Mercedes G63 rammed into three pedestrians near Ambience Mall in Delhi’s Vasant Kunj area. Police had said that the three victims, all employees of a restaurant in Ambience Mall, were found injured at the scene and rushed to hospital. One of them, Rohit, a 23-year-old resident of Chamoli, Uttarakhand, was declared brought dead, while the other two sustained injuries.

The latest accident also brings back memories of the high-profile Pune Porsche crash of May 19, 2024, in which an allegedly intoxicated 17-year-old minor driving a luxury car struck a motorcycle in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar area, killing two software engineers, Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta. The case had triggered nationwide outrage and renewed debates on road safety, accountability, and reckless driving involving luxury vehicles.
