Amid the ongoing severe heatwave in Delhi, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that the government is actively working to provide relief to the public. Special initiatives like Mobile Heat Relief Units and Cooling Zones have been set up across all 13 districts of the capital to safeguard citizens, laborers, commuters, and those in need. Chief Minister Gupta emphasized that besides governance, the Delhi government is committed to ensuring the safety and comfort of every individual.
The government is dedicated to addressing the extreme heat conditions with great care to prevent any suffering due to the heat. Programs such as Mobile Heat Relief Units and Cooling Zones exemplify the government’s dedication to public service and humanitarian values. Continuous monitoring of the situation is ongoing, with plans to enhance relief efforts as necessary, as per Chief Minister Gupta.
Under the supervision of the Revenue Department, the entire relief operation is being conducted. Over the period from May 6 to May 23, approximately 2.65 lakh individuals across all districts of Delhi received relief through Mobile Heat Relief Units. Cold drinking water amounting to around 1,13,900 liters was distributed during this time to combat heat and dehydration. Additionally, more than one lakh ORS packets were provided to prevent heat-related illnesses, along with the distribution of 44,646 gamchas and 30,864 caps to shield people from the sun.
Efforts to assist the public have reached a significant number of individuals in various districts, including North-East, East, South-West, and New Delhi. The strategic rotation of Mobile Heat Relief Unit vehicles daily ensures that relief services reach densely populated areas and those most in need. The relief campaign is scheduled to continue until July, with Cooling Zones established in different districts to offer respite and shelter from the heat to citizens, rickshaw pullers, laborers, and outdoor workers.
