Acting on Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s orders, various agencies in Delhi, including the government, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), and Delhi Development Authority (DDA), initiated a crackdown on unauthorized constructions and sealed properties not complying with fire safety regulations. The government’s zero-tolerance approach aims to eliminate illegal constructions and encroachments that endanger citizens’ lives and properties in the capital. Additionally, efforts are underway to establish a sustainable mechanism to prevent such hazardous constructions in the future.
Chief Minister Gupta emphasized the government’s commitment to not only taking immediate action but also implementing long-term solutions to address the issue effectively. The authorities are considering the introduction of a third-party insurance framework for buildings to enhance safety measures. The Revenue Department conducted inspections on 124 properties, taking necessary actions against violators to ensure compliance with regulations.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) intensified its enforcement activities by demolishing 94 properties and sealing 114 others within a six-day period. Furthermore, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) received directives to enhance its enforcement mechanisms against encroachments and unauthorized constructions. The government’s primary goal is to safeguard public safety and property by ensuring that all constructions and public facilities in Delhi adhere to safety standards.
In a bid to address the issue comprehensively, the government is actively exploring avenues for sustainable solutions. Chief Minister Gupta instructed officials to investigate the feasibility of implementing a third-party insurance system for various public structures witnessing significant footfall. Inspections conducted by the Revenue Department across different districts led to the issuance of notices to violators, with specific actions taken based on the violations found.
