Thirty-five Delhi government officials received the ‘Chief Minister’s Awards for Excellence and Innovation in Governance and Public Service Delivery 2026’ from Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. The awards, newly established this year, were bestowed on Civil Services Day to acknowledge exceptional and innovative contributions in the administrative field. The event was hosted by the Department of Administrative Reforms under the Chief Minister’s guidance.
Awardees were recognized with medals and commendation certificates for their exceptional service in enhancing governance systems and improving public service delivery. The Delhi government announced that these awards will be an annual feature on Civil Services Day, with the list of recipients unveiled every April. This initiative aims to enhance administrative efficiency and foster innovation in governance practices.
Lieutenant Governor Sandhu emphasized that civil servants play a crucial role in upholding public trust, beyond their administrative duties. He highlighted the importance of transparent, sensitive, and efficient service delivery to all citizens, stressing the need for civil servants to be more accountable, result-driven, and citizen-centric in their approach. Sandhu underscored the significance of innovation, improved coordination, and leveraging technology to tackle complex administrative challenges effectively.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta viewed civil service as a commitment to nation-building rather than just a profession. She expressed the government’s dedication to ensuring services reach every corner of Delhi, with officials serving as the backbone of governance. Gupta emphasized the city’s aspiration to achieve global standards through innovative and citizen-focused policies, marking Civil Services Day with the seriousness and scale it deserves. The awards aim to honor the relentless efforts of officers and staff in serving the people of Delhi, drawing inspiration from the Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence initiated in 2014.
