The Delhi government is moving towards cleaner public transportation by launching hydrogen fuel cell buses in collaboration with DTC and NTPC. Delhi Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh highlighted that this initiative signifies a crucial step towards environmentally responsible transport systems. The introduction of hydrogen fuel cell technology aims to enhance Delhi’s public transport network and promote eco-friendly mobility solutions.
The partnership with NTPC is part of an effort to incorporate advanced zero-emission technologies into Delhi’s public transport system. The deployment of hydrogen fuel-cell buses under the Gross Cost Contract model is currently in progress, with DTC overseeing operational aspects. Operational expenses at approved rates will be managed by DTC, while additional funding support is being explored through NTPC’s CSR initiatives and other collaborative efforts.
Delhi Government, DTC, NTPC, and other stakeholders are actively working on finalizing operational details and a formal Memorandum of Understanding to kickstart hydrogen fuel cell bus operations in the National Capital. Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh emphasized that this collaborative approach aims to accelerate the adoption of clean fuel technologies in urban transport. Hydrogen fuel cell buses are known for their zero emissions, operational efficiency, and potential to reduce the environmental impact of metropolitan transit systems significantly.
