The Delhi High Court has modified its previous order to grant interim bail to Baramulla MP Abdul Rashid Sheikh, also known as Engineer Rashid, permitting him to visit his father at AIIMS in Delhi. Rashid is now allowed to visit AIIMS daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. until May 10.
Initially, Rashid was granted bail to visit his father in a Srinagar hospital, but due to his father’s deteriorating condition, he was shifted to AIIMS, prompting Rashid to seek permission to travel to Delhi.
Rashid’s plea for modification of bail conditions was based on the change in his father’s treatment location, rendering the earlier relief ineffective.
The Delhi High Court, led by Justice Prathiba M. Singh and Justice Madhu Jain, issued a notice to the NIA regarding Rashid’s plea and requested details of an alternative address in Delhi apart from his official residence. The NIA objected to Rashid staying at his MP residence in Delhi during the hearing.
In a previous order on April 28, the court had granted Rashid one week’s interim bail in a terror-funding case investigated by the NIA, allowing him to care for his father in Srinagar under strict conditions.
The court had mandated that Rashid stay at the hospital or his residence, be accompanied by plainclothes police, use a designated mobile number, and avoid contact with case witnesses.
