The Delhi High Court has instructed Priya Kapur, the wife of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur, and his sister Mandhira Kapur Smith to refrain from making public statements against each other. This directive came during a hearing of a civil defamation suit filed by Priya Kapur against Mandhira Kapur Smith and podcast host Pooja Chaudhri. Justice Mini Pushkarna emphasized the importance of conducting themselves with dignity and avoiding public statements against each other.
Issuing notice on Priya Kapur’s interim relief application, the court directed Mandhira Kapur to respond within five weeks. Both parties have been urged to exercise restraint in making any statements against each other, either directly or indirectly. The case is scheduled for further hearing on May 14. Priya Kapur is seeking Rs 20 crore in damages and injunctions against allegedly defamatory statements made by the defendants.
Priya Kapur has accused Mandhira Kapur of engaging in a campaign to discredit her reputation through various mediums following her husband’s passing. The suit alleges that these statements falsely portray Priya Kapur in a negative light, causing significant harm to her reputation and mental well-being. The legal dispute extends beyond the civil suit, with Priya Kapur also pursuing criminal defamation proceedings and lodging a police complaint against the defendants.
