The Delhi High Court has resolved a petition from the family of a youth killed in Holi-related violence in Uttam Nagar. The police assured the court of continuous monitoring and providing the “best possible protection” to the petitioners. Security measures, including CCTV surveillance and police presence, have been reinforced around the petitioners’ residence to prevent any untoward incidents.
Additional steps such as the installation of CCTV cameras and the establishment of police pickets in the area have been taken to maintain communal harmony. A dedicated picket has been stationed outside the petitioners’ house for added protection. The court also requested the SHO to share his personal mobile number with the petitioners for immediate police assistance in case of distress.
The petition, filed by Laxmi Devi and others, aimed at ensuring the safety of the victim’s family and witnesses linked to an FIR at Uttam Nagar police station. The police informed the court that they had already removed over 250 objectionable videos and posts from social media. Any further flagged content will be promptly addressed by the SHO in line with the law.
In response to the measures taken and assurances given, the senior counsel for the petitioners expressed satisfaction with the actions in place. Consequently, the Delhi High Court disposed of the petition, which stemmed from the violent clash during Holi celebrations that resulted in the death of 26-year-old Tarun Kumar in Uttam Nagar.
