The Delhi High Court has granted interim relief to the children of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur from his previous marriage to Bollywood actor Karisma Kapoor. The court has restrained Sunjay Kapur’s widow, Priya Kapur, from dealing with key portions of his estate amid a family inheritance dispute. The court emphasized the need to preserve the estate during the ongoing legal proceedings, citing concerns raised by the plaintiffs and Sunjay Kapur’s mother regarding the authenticity of the will.
Justice Jyoti Singh, in a single-judge Bench, highlighted the suspicious circumstances surrounding the will and stated that the issue of its genuineness would be determined at trial. The court has prohibited Priya Kapur from making any changes to the equity and shareholding structure in Sunjay Kapur’s Indian companies. Additionally, she is barred from accessing provident fund amounts, personal effects, artworks, cryptocurrencies, and specified bank accounts linked to the estate.
The dispute stems from a suit filed by Sunjay Kapur’s children seeking a share in his estimated Rs 30,000 crore estate. They have contested a will dated March 21, 2025, alleging it to be forged and part of a conspiracy to exclude them. The children, claiming entitlement as legal heirs, have requested a one-fifth share each in the estate, asserting their close relationship with their father. Sunjay Kapur passed away in June 2025 at the age of 53.
