The Delhi High Court has instructed Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav to surrender before the Jail Superintendent by 4 p.m. on February 4 regarding multiple cheque bounce cases. Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma criticized Yadav’s behavior for not fulfilling settlement commitments despite numerous chances. The court was handling petitions by Yadav and his wife challenging their conviction under the Negotiable Instruments Act.
Despite being granted leniency for a significant period, the court observed that the settlement amount was not paid as promised. The court suspended the sentence in 2024 after efforts to settle the dispute amicably, but no payment was made for almost a year. Justice Sharma directed the release of the deposited amount to the complainant company and granted time till February 4 for Yadav to surrender, considering his professional engagements in Mumbai.
The court ordered Yadav to surrender by 4:00 PM on February 4 to serve the sentence awarded by the Trial Court. The matter is scheduled for compliance review on February 5 with the jail authorities.
