The Delhi High Court has taken steps to safeguard cricketer Abhishek Sharma’s personality and publicity rights from unauthorized online content misuse. Justice Jyoti Singh, on a single-judge Bench, has summoned the removal of objectionable material infringing on Sharma’s identity. Legal actions are being pursued to eliminate the identified infringing links, including posts on Facebook and Instagram, and listings on Amazon and Flipkart that exploit Sharma’s likeness without consent. The court has scheduled further proceedings for November 17 to address the matter.
The court proceedings reveal that Sharma is seeking legal protection against the unauthorized use of his name, image, and identity on digital platforms. This case is part of a trend where various prominent personalities, including cricketers, actors, singers, and public figures, have sought court intervention to prevent the misuse of their identity and likeness online. Notable individuals such as Gautam Gambhir, Sunil Gavaskar, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, and several actors and musicians have also taken legal action to protect their rights in recent times.
