Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, led a review meeting with officials from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to discuss urban governance, civic infrastructure improvements, and structural safety in the city.
The meeting focused on various issues such as desilting stormwater drains for the upcoming monsoon, repairing roads and pavements to reduce dust, enhancing sanitation efforts, and fast-tracking the Pradhan Mantri Unauthorised Colonies in Delhi Awas Adhikar Yojana (PM-UDAY) for unauthorized colonies. Additionally, corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives for park rejuvenation were explored.
After the meeting, L-G Sandhu emphasized the need for a comprehensive action plan to strengthen urban governance, improve civic infrastructure, and enhance structural safety in the capital. He stressed the enforcement of building bylaws to prevent illegal structural expansions and directed the MCD to address unauthorized constructions promptly.
In light of recent building collapses in Delhi, the focus was also on preparing stormwater drains for the monsoon to prevent waterlogging, a recurring issue causing inconvenience to commuters and residents. The meeting reviewed essential civic priorities, including desilting stormwater drains, road and pavement repairs, and intensified garbage clearance to elevate sanitation standards.
L-G Sandhu underscored the significance of public welfare initiatives, urging officials to expedite the PM-UDAY scheme for residents of unauthorized colonies and establish a participatory CSR framework for park revitalization. He reiterated the commitment to providing every Delhi resident with a safe, planned, clean, and dignified living environment in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of inclusive development.
