The Delhi Legislative Assembly kicked off its 77th Republic Day celebrations by welcoming the General Public and illuminating the heritage building. The festivities, spanning two days, featured band performances and cultural activities. On the first day, the Delhi Police band played patriotic tunes, complemented by vibrant cultural displays from the Sahitya Kala Academy.
The Vidhan Sabha building will be adorned in Tricolour lights to create a festive and patriotic atmosphere. Visitors can enter the Assembly complex without prior registration on Republic Day and the following day after a security check with a valid ID Proof. Citizens can explore the 115-year-old historic building and its significant heritage sites from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta encouraged Delhi residents to visit the historic Delhi Vidhan Sabha and celebrate Republic Day with true patriotism. He emphasized that Republic Day symbolizes India’s constitutional journey and democratic principles, fostering a deeper connection to the nation’s values and heritage by visiting the Assembly.
The Delhi Assembly Secretariat announced a two-day event at the Assembly premises, offering citizens a chance to witness Republic Day celebrations firsthand. Attendees can appreciate the charm and grandeur of the historic Delhi Vidhan Sabha building, delve into its architectural heritage, and understand its crucial role in the democratic governance of the National Capital Territory of Delhi.
This marks the first Republic Day celebration under the new BJP-led Delhi government, which succeeded the Aam Aadmi Party’s administration. In 2025, the state-level Republic Day function was overseen by former Chief Minister and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal. Following the AAP’s defeat in February 2025, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta assumed office as the new Chief Minister. Chief Minister Gupta led the state-level Republic Day festivities at Chhatrasal Stadium on Sunday, pledging to continue efforts in developing a Viksit Delhi.
