Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena criticized former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him of exacerbating the city’s air pollution issues. Saxena highlighted Kejriwal’s alleged failure to implement key measures like Metro Phase-IV and e-buses, which could have mitigated pollution levels. He also condemned Kejriwal’s approach to governance, citing neglect of civic infrastructure and a focus on publicity over progress.
Saxena recalled a conversation from 2002 where Kejriwal purportedly dismissed pollution concerns as a temporary issue raised by media and activists. The LG further chastised Kejriwal for what he described as a lack of cooperation with neighboring states and the central government in addressing pollution challenges. He criticized Kejriwal’s leadership style, accusing him of prioritizing announcements and publicity stunts over tangible improvements during his 11-year tenure.
The LG’s scathing letter also pointed out various civic issues in Delhi, such as Yamuna pollution, water network problems, and deteriorating roads, attributing them to the AAP government’s alleged failures. Saxena accused Kejriwal of undermining political norms and democratic values, claiming that the AAP leader avoided accountability by not signing official documents. Additionally, he criticized the discontinuation of weekly Cabinet meetings under Kejriwal’s administration.
Saxena highlighted a breakdown in communication between himself and Kejriwal, noting that the AAP leader had allegedly blocked his phone number and avoided face-to-face meetings. The LG lamented the lack of dialogue and cooperation, suggesting that personal interactions could have addressed the issues raised in the letter.
