Delhi Lieutenant Governor T.S. Sandhu acted swiftly to address the froth problem in the Yamuna River by visiting the Kalindi Kunj bank with experts. During the visit, he assessed the situation firsthand with senior officials and engaged in discussions with local and international experts from scientific institutions to find sustainable solutions.
The Delhi government recently faced criticism for allocating Rs 6.2 crore for two “VIP inspection boats” to monitor the Yamuna River, despite visible froth near Kalindi Kunj. The Irrigation and Flood Control Department issued a tender to procure these boats for monitoring, surveys, and inspection visits by officials.
Criticism arose from Congress National Secretary Abhishek Dutt, who questioned the government’s focus on costly boats instead of addressing the escalating pollution in the Yamuna. In response, BJP legislator Mohan Singh Bisht attributed the river’s pollution to long-term neglect by previous governments, emphasizing the need for effluent treatment plants to prevent contamination.
