In a ceremony attended by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and the DMRC Ladies Welfare Organisation (DLWO) signed an MoU with the Delhi government for collecting and recycling used clothes.
The partnership involves the State Urban Livelihood Mission (SULM) and textile recycling organizations Clothes Box Foundation and Respun. This collaboration marks the launch of the Old Clothes Donation Project in Delhi, aiming to prevent textile waste and promote recycling.
Chief Minister Gupta emphasized the government’s commitment to environmental conservation, waste management, and women’s empowerment through this initiative. The project will establish collection centers at 10 metro stations to gather old clothes from households, promoting a cleaner and sustainable Delhi.
DMRC Managing Director Vikas Kumar and partner organization representatives were also present at the event. The project will include setting up ‘Arpan’ centers at metro stations for clothes donation and the sale of recycled products, contributing to a circular economy.
